Union Omaha and Forward Madison Unified teams to face off in 2023
PAPILLION, Neb. (March 28, 2023) – Union Omaha and Forward Madison FC, in conjunction with Special Olympics Nebraska and Special Olympics Wisconsin, announced today the continuation of the Unified Soccer Series. The Unified Soccer Series is the first of its kind within the United Soccer League (USL) and will consist of two matches, one in Omaha, Neb. and one in Madison, Wis. featuring Special Olympics Unified teams from both states. The matches, scheduled for June 24 in Omaha and August 12 in Madison, will be played at Breese Stevens Field and Werner Park respectively. Both matches will occur surrounding USL League One matches those nights.
The Special Olympics Unified Sports program focuses on promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences and joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. Teams will be established through each state’s Special Olympics program in the coming months. The Union Omaha Unified Team will be hosting a tryout at 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 23 at Papillion Landing.

About Union Omaha
Union Omaha, the 2021 USL League One Champion, is the only professional soccer team in the state of Nebraska. USL League One is a United States Soccer Federation-sanctioned professional men’s soccer league that occupies the third tier of the American soccer landscape, below USL Championship (tier two) and Major League Soccer (tier one).
