Papillion, Neb. (August 1, 2020) – The wait is over. Union Omaha is finally set to make its home debut. More than a year of preparation has led to this moment in which Nebraska’s only professional soccer team will finally play its inaugural home game.
Union Omaha is set to host defending champion North Texas SC in what will be a historic day for soccer in Nebraska. Head Coach and Technical Director, Jay Mims, leads his team into the first-ever home game of USL soccer in the state, after months of building a roster with his coaching staff.
Led by CEO Gary Green and team President Martie Cordaro, Union Omaha begins its first-ever season at Werner Park and kicks off at 7 p.m. on all home games.
Union Omaha was founded on October 3, 2019 as a club formed by people with a common purpose. Our name embodies this mission and our crest is inspired by:
- – the people of the Omaha region; their hard work and values are equal to none
- – a sense of place, ranging from the natural beauty of Nebraska’s prairies to our vibrant neighborhoods
- – our purpose to celebrate and support all that is amazing in our region
That same community now gets a chance to see the first kickoff with a diverse roster of players from different nationalities and skill-level. Mims’ roster features players with USL Championship and League One experience as well as a few who represented national teams abroad such as #18, Elvir Ibisevic and #14, Christian Molina. Goalkeeper, Sam Howard and midfielders, Tyler David, and Sebastian Contreras also bring experience from playing in Europe and South America.
Union Omaha comes into the inaugural home game with one point from its inaugural away game against New England Revolution II with a final score of 0-0. In the preseason, Union Omaha was unbeaten as well
